Storming the Castle

Hello! Today, after more orientation where we finally got our class schedules (which are kind of complicated, but I'll post it once everything is worked out) we finally went to the castle.  Although we've been technically been up to it quite a few times, today, we actually went into it. This castle was awesome (which by the way, evidently nobody says awesome here and Scottish people give you really weird looks when you use it).  After climbing approximately 5,000 steps to get to the top of the cliff, we went inside to explore the castle which has a lot of military stuff in it.  The views of Edinburgh from the top of castle we're amazing (note: not awesome).  I took a video of the view, which is posted below.  I realize that this video is slightly awkward, but I think I'll get better at it as time goes on (let's hope so at least).

So, this was taken at the top of Edinburgh Castle. You also can see 3 of my IFSA friends in it.  Unfortunately, there is an  a kid in the background chanting "we're at the castle" or something, so some of it is kind of hard to hear.

After touring the castle, we wandered around the Royal Mile for a while.  We happened to find the Writer's Museum and since it was actually pretty cold today, and drizzling, we went inside and looked around.  Later, we went to a cafe called Deacon Brodie's Cafe (more on the story behind this place later.) Evidently coffee comes 2 different ways here; there is black coffee and white coffee.  After asking, and sound pretty stupid, I discovered that "white coffee" come with milk in it.

Later we went to Deacon Brodie's (a different place) for dinner and had fish and chips.  Evidently this was the house of a man who inspired Jekyll and Hyde.  The cafe we went to earlier was the Deacon's workshop.  This man was a deacon, obviously, and made cabinets and let a normal life by day, but at night he copied key's of rich people's houses and snuck in to steal their things.  Thus, Jekyll and Hype was supposedly born.  The fish and chips were really good by the way!

Tomorrow I leave for Stirling! Hopefully everything will go good there before I start a few days of orientation and classes on Wednesday!
